Will it slow my store?
Breadcrumbs has no noticeable effect on speed: the trail is drawn by your theme from data already in your store, with no JavaScript or extra requests. Only Visitor path adds a small script, and only if you turn it on.
What it is
No. Breadcrumbs is built to have no noticeable effect on your store's speed. The breadcrumb trail is drawn by your theme when the page is built, using data already stored in your store. It doesn't need any JavaScript or extra network requests to appear. Shoppers see the trail as soon as the page loads, just like your theme's own text and links.
The only feature that uses a script is Visitor path. To build a trail from the pages a shopper clicked through, it needs a small script to remember their route. If you don't turn on Visitor path, no script is added.
How to keep your store fast
Add the Breadcrumbs by Shopgears block to your templates as usual. No other setup is needed for good performance.
Leave Visitor path off unless you want trails based on each shopper's route. If you turn it on, the script it adds is small.
Keep Custom CSS in the block short and focused, as you would with any theme customisation.
Test your store with Shopify's built-in speed report or a tool like Google PageSpeed Insights before and after setup if you'd like to confirm there's no change.
Why it's useful
Page speed affects both sales and search rankings. Shoppers leave slow pages, and search engines favour fast ones. Many apps add scripts that load on every page and slow things down over time. Because Breadcrumbs draws the trail without JavaScript or extra requests, you get better navigation and structured data without paying for it in load time. The trail also works if a shopper's browser blocks scripts, and it's visible to search engines right away, since it's part of the page from the start.
