How do I set up a different theme than the live one?
Pick the theme in the theme picker on Home, then use Set up pages and Settings › Breadcrumb style as usual. Styles are saved per theme, while the category tree is shared by every theme.
What it is
Many merchants prepare a new theme in the background before publishing it, or keep a few themes for seasonal designs. Breadcrumbs lets you set up any theme in your store, not just the live one. The setup section on Home has a theme picker. Whichever theme you pick is the one the checklist checks and the one the setup buttons open. Breadcrumb styles are also saved per theme, so each theme can have its own look.
How to set it up
Go to Home in the app.
In the setup section, use the theme picker to choose the theme you want to work on, for example an unpublished draft theme.
Click Set up pages. The theme editor opens for that theme.
Add the Breadcrumbs by Shopgears block to the product, collection and collection list templates, then click Save.
Go to Settings › Breadcrumb style and pick a style for that theme.
Back on Home, the checklist now shows progress for the theme you picked.
When you publish the theme later, the breadcrumbs are already in place and styled.
Why it's useful
Setting up a draft theme in advance means a redesign doesn't leave your live store without breadcrumbs, even for a moment. You can test the trail, try different styles and check how it looks on mobile without shoppers seeing anything half-finished. Per-theme styles mean your current theme keeps its look while the new one gets its own. Your category tree is shared across all themes, so you only arrange your categories once, and every theme you set up uses the same structure.
