Why is my schema not live?
Usually the SEO schema app embed is off in your published theme. Use the Turn on app embed link in the app, then click Save in the theme editor. Breadcrumb schema needs the breadcrumb block on the page instead.
What it is
Turning a schema type on in the app saves your choice, but the data only reaches your storefront through your theme. Most types (Organization, Website, Local business, Product, Collection, Blog and Article) are output by an app embed called SEO schema. If that embed is switched off in your published theme, nothing is published, and the type's page shows a Not on your store yet warning.
The Breadcrumb type works differently. It's output by the Breadcrumbs block itself, so it only appears on pages where that block is placed.
How to fix it
Open SEO schema in the app and look for the Not on your store yet warning.
Click the one-click Turn on app embed link. It opens your theme editor with the embed ready to switch on.
Alternatively, go to Online Store › Themes › Customize in Shopify, open Theme settings › App embeds, and turn on SEO schema.
Click Save in the theme editor.
For Breadcrumb schema, make sure the Breadcrumbs by Shopgears block is added and saved on your product and collection templates.
Return to the app. The warning disappears once the app sees the embed (or block) is live.
Remember that the embed needs to be on in your published theme. If you switch themes, check the embed again on the new one.
Why it's useful
Knowing exactly why schema isn't showing saves a lot of head-scratching. Shopify keeps app embeds off by default so apps can't change your storefront without your permission, which means this one-time step is normal. The app checks for you and gives a direct link, so you don't need to dig through theme settings. Once the embed is on, every type you switch on in the app goes live automatically, with no further theme changes.
