How do I handle long breadcrumbs?
Open Settings › Long breadcrumbs and pick one of four modes, separately for desktop and mobile: Collapse the middle, Scroll sideways (the default), Path above, page below, or Wrap onto new lines.
What it is
Deep categories and long product names can make a trail too wide for the screen, especially on phones. Long breadcrumbs lets you decide what happens when a trail runs out of room. You set desktop and mobile separately. There are four modes:
Collapse the middle: always one line. Home and the current page stay visible, and the steps in between scroll, with a "…" marking the hidden part.
Scroll sideways: one line with the full path. Shoppers swipe to see the steps that don't fit. This is the default for both desktop and mobile.
Path above, page below: the collection path sits on its own scrollable line, with the current page title on the line below.
Wrap onto new lines: nothing is hidden or scrolled. The trail flows onto as many lines as it needs.
How to set it up
Open Settings and use the theme picker in the header to choose your theme.
Go to the Long breadcrumbs section.
Pick a mode for desktop.
Pick a mode for mobile. It can be different from desktop.
Click Save in the save bar.
Open a deep product page on your storefront on both a computer and a phone to check the result.
Depending on your plan, some modes may be marked Included in a higher plan and need an upgrade to use.
Why it's useful
A trail that overflows can push your layout around, cover the product title or get cut off mid-word. Choosing a mode keeps breadcrumbs tidy at every screen size. Separate desktop and mobile settings let you have the best of both: for example, wrap the full trail on wide screens, and collapse the middle on phones where every pixel counts. The default, scrolling sideways, never hides a step and never changes the trail's height, so even an unconfigured store won't have its layout disturbed.
