How do I show sub-categories under a collection?
Add the Categories by Shopgears block to your collection template. It shows tiles for the collections nested under the current one in your category tree, and nothing on collections without any.
What it is
The Categories block (shown in the theme editor as Categories by Shopgears) adds a set of tiles to your collection pages. The tiles link to the collections nested under the current one. For example, a Clothing page can show tiles for Dresses, Tops and Knitwear. The tiles come from your category tree, in the same order you arranged them in the Tree editor. On collections with no sub-categories, the block shows nothing, so you can add it to your collection template safely.
How to set it up
Arrange your collections in the Tree editor, nesting sub-categories under their parent collections, and click Save.
Go to Home and use the setup section to open the theme editor on the collection page template.
Add the Categories by Shopgears block to the collection template. A good spot is above the product grid, just under the collection heading.
Adjust its settings if you like: heading, layout, columns, image shape and how many tiles to show.
Click Save in the theme editor.
Open a parent collection on your storefront to see its sub-category tiles.
Whenever you reorder or re-nest collections in the Tree editor and save, the tiles update to match, with no extra work in the theme.
Why it's useful
Parent collections often hold hundreds of products, which can overwhelm shoppers who already know what they want. Sub-category tiles give them a visual shortcut into the right part of the range, the way department signs work in a physical store. Because the tiles are built from the same tree as your breadcrumbs, your navigation stays consistent: the tiles lead shoppers down a level, and the breadcrumb leads them back up. You maintain one structure and get both features.
