How do I fix "Needs review" products?

Products DashboardUpdated 1 min read

Click Add to collection on the product's row in Products › Needs review and pick a collection, ideally one already in your tree. Until then the product keeps a simple Home › product trail.

What it is

A product tagged Needs review isn't in any collection, or is only in the automatic All products collection. Since breadcrumbs are built from collections, the app has no category to show, so the product's trail is just Home › product. That still works, but it gives shoppers no way to move up to related products.

Add to collection lets you put the product into one of your collections right from the Products page, without going to the Shopify product editor.

How to fix it

  1. Open Products and select the Needs review tab.

  2. Find a product and click Add to collection on its row.

  3. Choose the collection the product belongs in. Ideally, pick one that's already in your category tree.

  4. Confirm. The product is added to that collection in Shopify.

  5. The product's tag updates. If the collection is in your tree, it becomes Custom. If not, it becomes Automatic, and you can use Add to tree next.

Until you add a collection, the product keeps the simple Home › product trail, so nothing breaks on your storefront in the meantime.

Why it's useful

Products outside any collection are easy to lose track of. They often come from quick imports, new arrivals or one-off listings. Besides having a bare breadcrumb, they're often harder for shoppers to find through collection pages and filters. Fixing them from the Products page gives each item a proper home in your catalog and a full breadcrumb trail. Clearing this tab regularly is a good habit after adding new products.
