Which pages can show breadcrumbs?

Getting StartedUpdated 1 min read

Three page types: product pages, collection pages and the collection list page. Add the Breadcrumbs by Shopgears block to each template you want covered.

What it is

Breadcrumbs can appear on the three page types where shoppers move through your catalog:

  • Product pages: the trail leads from Home through the product's category down to the product.

  • Collection pages: the trail shows where the collection sits in your category tree.

  • Collection list page: the page that lists all your collections, with a short trail back to Home.

These are the pages where shoppers browse and go deeper, so they're where a "you are here" trail helps most.

How to set it up

  1. Go to Home in the app and open Set up pages in the Get set up section.

  2. In the theme editor, add the Breadcrumbs by Shopgears block to the product template.

  3. Switch to the collection template and add the block there too.

  4. Switch to the collection list template and add it again if you want a trail there.

  5. Click Save in the theme editor after each change.

If your theme uses more than one product or collection template (for example, a special template for a featured range), add the block to each template you use.

Why it's useful

Focusing on catalog pages keeps the trail where it helps. On a product page, the breadcrumb tells shoppers which category they're in and gives them a one-click way back to related items, which keeps them browsing instead of leaving. On collection pages, it shows how your range is organised, so shoppers can move up a level to see more. These pages are also the ones search engines care about most for category structure. That's why the app pairs them with breadcrumb structured data, which can help Google show a clean path in search results instead of a raw web address.
