What happens to paid settings after a downgrade?
Settings your new plan does not include switch off on your store straight away. In the app they show as an unsaved change you can Save or Discard. Your category tree and display names are not affected.
What it is
If you move to a lower plan, any settings that need a higher plan are switched off. This happens in two places:
On your store, automatically. Your storefront stops using those features as soon as the plan changes. For example, it stops building trails from the visitor's path, or stops publishing schema types your new plan doesn't include. You don't have to do anything for your store to stay within your plan.
In the app, as an unsaved change. The next time you open the affected screen, those settings appear switched off as an unsaved change, with a banner explaining why. You can Save to confirm, or Discard.
How to handle it
After downgrading, open the app and visit Settings, SEO schema and any other screen you use.
Look for a banner explaining that some settings were switched off because of your plan.
Review the unsaved changes that were made for you.
Click Save to make the app match what your store is already doing. If you click Discard, the features still stay off on your store until you upgrade.
If you need a feature back, open Pricing and upgrade. You can then switch it on again.
Your category tree, display names and other settings that are included in every plan aren't affected by a downgrade.
Why it's useful
A downgrade should never leave your store in a broken or half-working state. Switching paid features off automatically on the storefront means shoppers always see a consistent experience that matches your plan. Showing the change in the app as an unsaved edit, instead of silently rewriting your settings, keeps you informed and in control. You can see exactly what changed and why, and the work you put into everything else stays in place.
