How do I preview a trail before saving?

Category TreeUpdated 1 min read

Select any collection in Tree editor. The storefront preview shows its trail and products, including your unsaved changes. Click Save to publish or Discard to undo.

What it is

The Tree editor has a built-in storefront preview. When you select a collection in the tree, the preview shows the breadcrumb trail shoppers will see for that collection, along with the products in it. It reflects your unsaved changes, so you can see the effect of a move or a display name before anything goes live on your store.

How to set it up

  1. Open Tree editor.

  2. Select any collection in the tree.

  3. Look at the storefront preview. It shows the full trail from Home down to that collection, plus the products behind it.

  4. Make a change, such as moving the collection under a different parent or giving it a display name. The preview updates straight away.

  5. Select other collections to check their trails, especially any that sit under the branch you changed.

  6. When everything looks right, click Save. If not, click Discard to undo your unsaved changes.

Why it's useful

Previewing removes the guesswork from rearranging categories. One drag can change the trail for every collection and product in a branch, so it helps to see the result before shoppers do. Seeing the products alongside the trail also helps you check that each collection belongs where you put it. For example, you'll quickly notice if a collection of accessories ended up under Shoes. Because the preview uses your draft, you can try different arrangements freely and only publish the one you're happy with. That makes big reorganisations much less risky.
