My store is password-protected; how do I run the check?

Click Check for duplicates and enter your storefront password when the app asks. That is the password under Online Store › Preferences, not your Shopify admin login.

What it is

While a store is being built, or before launch, Shopify often protects the storefront with a password page. The Check for duplicates tool needs to read your live pages to find structured data, but a password page blocks that, just as it blocks shoppers. When the app detects a password-protected storefront, it asks you for the storefront password, so it can get past the password page and read the real pages.

How to set it up

  1. Find your storefront password in Shopify under Online Store › Preferences, in the password protection section.

  2. In the app, open SEO schema and click Check for duplicates.

  3. When the app asks for the storefront password, enter it.

  4. The app reads your pages behind the password page and runs the check as normal.

  5. Review the results and fix any duplicates by turning off one of the sources.

This is your storefront password, the one you give to people previewing your store. It is not your Shopify admin login. Never enter your admin password here.

Why it's useful

The best time to sort out structured data is before launch, which is exactly when most stores are password-protected. Supporting the storefront password means you don't have to remove protection, even briefly, just to run a check. You can clean up duplicates from your theme or other apps while the store is still private, so it launches with tidy, consistent structured data from day one. It also means you can re-check after any theme or app change during development, without exposing an unfinished store to the public.
