How do I choose a product's category?
Click Choose on the product's row in Products and pick the category from your tree that its breadcrumb should follow. Without a choice, the app uses the deepest matching category. Choose is available on paid plans.
What it is
By default, the app picks each product's breadcrumb from your category tree. When a product is in several collections, it uses the deepest one in your tree, because that's usually the most specific. Sometimes that isn't the trail you want. A product might sit in both Sale and Men › Shoes › Trainers, or two categories might be equally deep. In that case the product is tagged Can improve.
Choose lets you pick the exact category a product's breadcrumb should follow. It's available on paid plans.
How to set it up
Open Products.
Find the product. The Can improve tab is a good place to start.
Click Choose on its row.
Pick the category from your tree that the breadcrumb should use.
Confirm. The product is now tagged Custom, and its reason shows that the category was chosen by you.
If you later remove that category from your tree, the app tells you that your chosen category is no longer in the tree, so you can choose again.
If you're on the free plan, you'll see an Included in a higher plan link instead, which takes you to the Pricing page.
Why it's useful
Automatic rules work for most products, but you know your catalog best. Choosing a category lets you put a bestseller in its main department rather than a seasonal sale collection, or settle a tie between two equally good categories. The breadcrumb then matches how you want shoppers, and search engines, to understand the product. It's precise control over the products that matter most, without restructuring your whole tree to handle a few exceptions.
